Conference Location

The 2006 EAMT Annual Conference will be held on the Blindern campus of the University of Oslo; all presentations, lunches, and coffee breaks will be in Eilert Sundts Hus (buildings numbers 9 & 10 on the map; Moltke Moes Vei 31). The campus is connected to the city center by high-frequency public transport (metro lines 3 & 5 to Forskningsparken or tram lines 17 & 18 to Universitetet Blindern), or accessible through a pleasant twenty-minute walk from the recommended conference hotels.

Travel to Oslo

Oslo is easily reached by air from many airports in Europe; visitors arriving from overseas may have to go through a European hub (e.g. Copenhagen, Frankfurt, London Heathrow, Paris) in order to connect to Oslo. Besides most of the ‘traditional’ airlines, Oslo Airport (locally known as Gardermoen) is also served by several point-to-point airlines, including Norwegian Air, and Sterling. Gardermoen airport is connected to the city center by a twenty-minute ride on the airport express train.

Another possible airport is Sandefjord Airport (sometimes mis-labeled as ‘Oslo Torp’), which is served by RyanAir. From Sandefjord there is an airport shuttle bus connecting to Oslo in a little over two hours.

Other candidate modes of arriving in Oslo include train service from Gothenburg and Stockholm (both in Sweden) and (slower but very pleasant) ferry connections from, among others, Kiel (Germany) and Copenhagen (Denmark).

Accommodation

Hotel rooms in Oslo can be comparatively economic, even during the summer months. The local organizers have made bulk discount arrangements with several hotels—all conveniently located, tested, and found suitable—but participants are expected to make their own bookings. For the time being, the following hotels have agreed to hold rooms for EAMT participants at discount rates; please note the booking deadlines and make sure to provide the EAMT booking reference, where appropriate (see below). The EAMT organizers also aim to provide a budget accommodation option, possibly in student housing; watch this space for updates.

Hotel Gyldenløve is within walking distance to both the university and downtown Oslo. The hotel is offering single rooms at NOK 680 per night (NOK 930 for a double room), including breakfast. These rates are available until May 2, 2006, through booking reference 3245220.

The Norlandia Karl Johan Hotell lies in the heart of Oslo, with direct access to the metro system (connecting to the university in about ten minutes) and maybe forty minutes away from the university campus by foot. Conference rates are NOK 845 and NOK 1045 (single or double room, respectively, both including breakfast) and guaranteed until May 5, 2006, through booking referenceG139084.

The Haraldsheim Youth Hostel provides budget accomodation in four-bed, twin, and single rooms (all optionally with a private bath). The hostel lies some four kilometers away from the city centre and has good public transport connections to both the university campus and downtown Oslo. Prices at the hostel range from NOK 185 (four-room accomodation, shared bath) to NOK 380 (single room with private path), all including breakfast and subject to a one-time fee of NOK 60 (for hostel membership and bedding). There is no reservation for EAMT, but the hostel expects to have adequate space available.
